Exploring Hamner Springs

Today, we decided not to attempt an excursion to Kaikoura, on the east coast of the South Island, in search of the mighty sperm whale (another musical quote). The roads along the coast, and the alternate route, have been damaged by the earthquake and subsequent rains, so the return trip would have been questionable. 

Instead, we decided to climb Conical Hill and discovered a truly amazing vista. From now on, I will try and include photos of the towns along the way, so you can get a flavor for the countryside.
