Tongariro National Park

I have been remiss in not giving credit to my lovely traveling companion, who also happens to be my wife, Tracy, for almost all the pictures shown in the blog.

We left New Plymouth, taking pictures along the way, and arrived at our next destination. We had a beautiful drive most of the way, but when we approached the Whakapapa Village area, the clouds rolled in and hung like a shroud over Mts Tongariro, Ruapehu, and Ngauruhoe. So, it wasn't possible to see Mt Doom in all it's glory (LOTR fans will know the reference).

The next day the weather was iffy, to say the least, but to quote Dr. Watson "it is what it is". And anyone that knows me, understands that has always been my  philosophy, never letting things get to me.

So we carried on and made the most of the weather and actually made a great day of it, the highlight being seeing Gollum's pool, where he was caught by Faramir.

    1. Actually Mt Ngauruhoe is the one they used for full shots of MT Doom, and Mts Taranaki is the one used for shots of Sam & Frodo climbing up the side of it
