Waimangu Volcanic Valley Day 4

We made a trip to the Waimangu Volcanic Valley where I could get a blast from my past as a refinery worker. It is significant because it is the only major hydrothermal system in the world whose surface activities commenced wholly within historic times and did so at a precisely known date as the result of a volcanic eruption. Sorry for getting so technical for a time.

It was a chance to bring back memories of walking through sulphur infused steam clouds, until the EPA made Exxon clean up the atmosphere they were contaminating. I just hope and pray that is one regulation they don't get rid of, among other ones.

  1. Looks like a very dynamic environment...and quite beautiful. It reminds of Lassen Nat. Park in CA. Any hot springs to dip into???
