Invercargill

On the way from Kaka Point to Invercargill we went to a beach that is full of petrified trees, but only accessible during low tide. The trees, from the Jurassic period, were flooded and petrified with silica.

Invercargill is about as far south as you can go in New Zealand, except if you travel to Stewart's Island, you have to sail from Bluff which is a little further south.

We were only in Invercargill for one night, but walked through this wonderful park that had a stumpery, and many fields for cricket, lawn bowling, croquet, and lawn tennis, as well as an aviary and rock garden.

From Kaka Point
Some fields dotted with livestock
Petrified tree
And it's stump
Snails at play
Waves crashing on the rocks
Even bigger waves
Stumpery
